Tybee Island is my favorite! This island has a special personality. There’s a total lack of mega-chain corporations, so everything is local and unique. With a great location to stay, you can walk to most of the fun!
There are some things I have learned about Tybee. Two things that can be a bit challenging are groceries and parking. There is a grocery store on the island, but it is good to plan ahead and take care of this, especially on big, holidays or weekends like Memorial Day, or the 4th of July.
If you have a Tybee Island vacation rental, or you are staying at a hotel, there will usually be at least one parking space. Some have two. If you have a larger group, perhaps ride together onto the island.
Things to do in Tybee Island Georgia

The Beach
Once here to enjoy the beach, all should be easy going! The pier is fabulous, and it has hot dogs, frozen cocktails, and restrooms. At night, sometimes there is musical entertainment. The end of the pier has lots of fishing, of course, so just be sure to stay back from any casting fishermen.
Downtown Tybee Island
The downtown scene is just steps from the beach, so you can easily walk up to Fannies’ for a bite to eat, or pop into Tybee Time for more variety on those frozen cocktails.
For a bit of nightlife, there are multiple bars. Nikki’s 1971 often has karaoke or live performers, and Doc’s can really rock it out as well.
Get Active
Looking for a bit more activity? Try taking a kayak trip around Little Tybee with Aqua Dawg. It’s really interesting, and the guide has so much information about the wildlife.
Tybee Island Food
After a fabulous day on the beautiful, soft sand beach, dinner has some terrific options as well. The Crab Shack is a lot of fun for seafood. They’ve got alligators out front, and lots of exotic birds. The expansive outside deck overlooks the backwater. The Sundae Cafe is a small, but amazing little restaurant. You will need reservations on most weekends because this place is pretty small. If you want pizza, I recommend Huc A Poos.
Things to do Near Tybee Island
If you have multiple days, and you’d like to mix it up with a bit of time in Savannah, there are some amazing choices there as well. Once again, the thing to work out is parking. The fewer vehicles you have to park, the happier you will be. If you’ve got a big group, maybe pitch in on a limo and then you won’t have to park, and you can drink.
You cannot go wrong with the restaurants in Savannah. St. Bibiana’s is one of my favorites. It right at Forsyth park, near downtown. There are many articles about all of the amazing food choices. It’s hard to go wrong.
Other interesting ideas in Savannah include the Savannah for Morons comedy bus tour, ghost tours, river street, comedy shows, musical acts, museums and more!Things
